So how do you make these things?
With blood, sweat, and beers- I mean tears.I start every collection by learning a new way of making, which is vague, but it's true! I learned knitting, macrame, and weaving before I ever learned how to cement cast and laser cut the products I have released so far.
ConceptualizeThe next thing I tend to do after learning a new skill is focus on creating something different and interesting. Making a viable product to sell brings a complex element to the table where I need to calculate time, cost, and labor while also ensuring I am making a quality product that works well. I ask myself, "Would I want to buy this?"
DesignOnce I have an idea, I run with it. I'll spend hours, days, even weeks tinkering around with it, making version after version, testing it, adjusting it. It's how I really craft a product, and it takes shape and changes until it's something I am truly happy with.
MakeSometimes it takes a few tries to get it just as I want it, because I am a stickler for detail. I get my hands dirty and have fun! I get to play with colors and shapes! I see what I'm capable of and sometimes I even surprise myself.
ShareI can be private about my work at times, but having this platform has forced me to come out, share my art, and challenge myself to keep the creative juices flowing. The positive response has meant a lot!
